Curriculum Subject Guidance
Subject Guidance is how we set out what children learn and how they learn it in each subject across our school.
It helps parents and visitors understand how our curriculum is carefully designed so that all children build knowledge, develop skills and grow in confidence over time.
What does this mean for your child?
Each subject is planned to ensure that:
- Learning is ambitious and appropriate for all pupils
- Knowledge builds step by step from Early Years to Year Six
- Children remember more over time, not just in the moment
- All pupils, including those with additional needs or learning English as an additional language, are fully supported
How learning happens
Our Subject Guidance explains how teaching is delivered in a clear and consistent way across the school. This includes:
- Breaking learning into small, well-sequenced steps
- Teaching key vocabulary and important knowledge explicitly
- Regular opportunities for children to recall and apply what they have learned
- Encouraging children to talk, think and explain their ideas
- Providing experiences, visits and activities that bring learning to life
How we know it is working
We use Subject Guidance to make sure that children:
- Know more and remember more as they move through the school
- Can talk confidently about their learning
- Are able to apply their knowledge in different ways
- Develop curiosity, confidence and independence
Teachers and subject leaders regularly review learning to ensure it is high quality, consistent and continually improving.
Our aim
Our aim is for every child to leave our school with:
- A strong foundation of knowledge across all subjects
- The confidence to think, question and learn independently
- The skills and understanding they need for the next stage of their education and beyond
In simple terms
Subject Guidance shows how we make sure every child learns well, remembers more and succeeds.
