This statement is made in accordance with the Department for Education’s Behaviour in Schools: Advice for Headteachers and School Staff (2022).

The Governing Body of Bonneygrove and Millbrook Primary Federation provides strategic oversight to ensure that the school’s Behaviour Policy reflects statutory requirements and promotes high standards of behaviour.

Core Principles

• High expectations of behaviour
  The Governing Body expects high standards of behaviour from all pupils. These expectations are clearly communicated, consistently applied, and supported by a whole-school culture that enables pupils to learn effectively.
• Creating a calm, safe and supportive environment
  The school will maintain a calm, orderly and safe environment where all pupils and staff feel secure and respected. Good behaviour is central to pupils’ educational success and wellbeing.
• Clarity and consistency
  The Behaviour Policy will set out clear expectations, routines and consequences so that pupils understand the standards expected of them. These will be applied consistently and fairly by all staff.
• Positive behaviour and recognition
  The school will actively promote positive behaviour through encouragement, praise and recognition, ensuring that pupils are supported to meet expectations and develop self-discipline.
• Support for all pupils
  The Governing Body recognises that behaviour is influenced by a range of factors, including individual needs. The school will adopt an inclusive approach, providing appropriate support, including for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), to enable all pupils to succeed.
• Proportionate and reasonable responses
  Sanctions, where used, will be proportionate, reasonable and applied fairly, in line with DfE guidance. The school will ensure that any response to misbehaviour takes account of individual circumstances.
• Restorative and reflective approaches
  The school will support pupils to reflect on their behaviour, understand its impact, and where appropriate, repair relationships. This supports the development of responsibility and self-regulation.
• Safeguarding and wellbeing
  Behaviour systems will be designed and implemented with full regard to safeguarding duties and the wellbeing of pupils and staff.
• Partnership with parents and carers
  The school will work in partnership with parents and carers to promote high standards of behaviour and ensure shared expectations.

Use of Reasonable Force and Suspensions/Exclusions

The Governing Body expects that:

• Any use of reasonable force will be lawful, proportionate and in line with statutory guidance
• Suspensions and permanent exclusions will only be used where necessary, as a last resort, and in accordance with statutory procedures

Governance and Accountability

The Governing Body will:

• Ensure the Behaviour Policy complies with DfE guidance and is published and reviewed regularly
• Hold the Headteacher to account for the implementation and impact of the Behaviour Policy
• Monitor behaviour data, including patterns, trends, suspensions and exclusions
• Seek assurance that behaviour systems are applied consistently and equitably across all groups of pupils
• Ensure that the school fulfils its legal duties under the Equality Act 2010
