Wednesday 22nd May Year 5 Trip to Burwell House

This fabulous old house has had a rich and varied history. Built by Salisbury Dunn – a local landowner – in 1787, and extended massively in Victorian times by Edward Ball MP, the property passed through the ownership of many families until its purchase by Cambridgeshire County Council in 1964.The village is located at the head of Burwell Lode, a man-made waterway which connects it with the River Cam. The present course, created in the mid 17th century, replaced an older route which was probably Roman in origin.
