School Uniform
Bonneygrove Primary School
We want our school uniform to be smart, practical, affordable and accessible to every family.
School uniform helps children feel part of the Bonneygrove community and supports a strong sense of belonging. At the same time, we recognise that the cost of uniform matters to families.
In line with current Department for Education guidance, we aim to keep uniform costs as low as possible and ensure that parents and carers have choice over where they buy uniform.
You Do Not Have to Buy Uniform with the School Logo
Parents and carers can buy plain, non-branded uniform from any suitable local shop, supermarket or online retailer.
You do not need to buy clothing embroidered with the Bonneygrove Primary School logo.
For example, a plain burgundy jumper, sweatshirt or cardigan and a plain white polo shirt are perfectly acceptable, provided that they meet the school's uniform colours.
This gives families the freedom to shop around and choose the best value for money.
The Department for Education specifically encourages schools to allow generic uniform items that can be bought from a range of retailers, helping parents to manage costs.
School Logo Uniform – Optional
Parents and carers who would like their child to wear uniform featuring the Bonneygrove Primary School logo can continue to purchase this through our school uniform supplier:
Mapac Schoolwear
Mapac supplies branded schoolwear and parents can order embroidered items directly from them.
The school logo is optional.
Children wearing plain uniform without the logo are wearing the correct school uniform and will be treated in exactly the same way as children wearing branded items.
Our Main School Uniform
Our current uniform includes:
- Burgundy sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan – with or without the school logo
- White polo shirt – with or without the school logo
- Grey trousers
- Grey shorts
- Grey skirt
- Grey pinafore dress
- Red and white gingham dress for the summer
- Grey, black or white socks or tights, as appropriate
- Plain black footwear
Our existing uniform information also confirms that logo items are not compulsory.
For younger children, we particularly recommend clothing that they can manage independently. Polo shirts are therefore preferable to more complicated shirts and fastenings.
Uniform is not compulsory for children attending Nursery.
Keeping Uniform Affordable
From 1 September 2026, primary schools must not require more than three compulsory branded items across school uniform and PE kit.
At Bonneygrove, our approach goes further by allowing parents to purchase our main uniform items without the school logo.
This means families can buy suitable clothing from shops such as supermarkets, high-street retailers or online stores rather than being required to use one supplier.
The Department for Education states that the cost of uniform should never become a barrier to a child attending a school or taking part fully in school life.
Second-Hand Uniform
We also encourage families to make use of good-quality second-hand uniform.
Reusing uniform can:
- reduce costs for families;
- reduce waste;
- support sustainability; and
- help families when children grow quickly.
Please contact the school office for information about the availability of second-hand uniform.
We also welcome donations of clean, good-quality uniform that children have outgrown.
Government guidance requires schools to make second-hand uniform accessible and to tell parents how it can be obtained.
If You Are Finding the Cost of Uniform Difficult

We understand that family circumstances can change and that purchasing school uniform can sometimes place additional pressure on household finances.
If you are having difficulty providing uniform for your child, please contact the school office or a member of the senior leadership team.
Any conversation will be treated sensitively and confidentially.
Our priority is that every child feels included and able to participate fully in school life.

Our uniform policy is based on three simple principles:

Parents and carers may choose between:
Plain non-branded uniform from any suitable retailer
or
Optional embroidered Bonneygrove uniform from Mapac
Both are equally acceptable.
The important thing is that children come to school dressed safely, comfortably and in the agreed school colours, ready to learn.
