Remote Learning
Remote Curriculum: What is taught to pupils at home
In the event of school closure or pupil self-isolation, the Bonneygrove and Millbrook Primary Federation will provide a high-quality remote education curriculum that is closely aligned to the in-school curriculum.
Pupils will access learning through Google Classroom, with daily teaching and resources reflecting the sequence of learning in school. The remote curriculum includes:
- English (including reading and writing)
- Mathematics
- Phonics (EYFS and Key Stage 1)
- SPaG (Key Stage 2)
- Guided Reading
- Foundation subjects (e.g. science, history, geography, computing, art, RE, PE)
Remote Teaching and Study Time Each Day
We provide pupils with the following minimum daily learning time, in line with DfE expectations:
- EYFS: up to 3 hours (including phonics)
- Key Stage One: at least 3 hours
- Key Stage Two: at least 4 hours
Learning includes a combination of:
- recorded teaching (e.g. video lessons)
- live teaching (via Google Meet)
- independent practice and consolidation activities
Accessing Remote Education
All pupils access remote learning via Google Classroom.
Where pupils do not have access to suitable technology or internet connection, the federation will:
- provide paper-based learning packs, or
- support families in accessing appropriate devices or connectivity, where possible
Support for Pupils with Additional Needs
We recognise that some pupils, including those with SEND, may require additional support.
Across the federation, we will:
- adapt learning to meet individual needs
- provide additional scaffolding and resources
- maintain regular contact with families
- work closely with the SENCo to ensure appropriate provision
Engagement and Feedback
We have clear expectations for engagement in remote learning:
- Pupils are expected to attend daily live sessions and complete assigned work
- Teachers monitor engagement through Google Classroom
- Feedback is provided regularly to support progress
Where engagement is a concern, staff will:
- contact parents/carers
- provide additional support and guidance
- work with families to remove barriers to learning
Keeping in Touch
During remote learning, teachers will:
- maintain daily contact via Google Classroom (8:45am–3:15pm)
- provide at least one live session per day
- communicate regularly with parents/carers
- be available to respond to queries and provide support
Parents and carers are encouraged to:
- support their child’s engagement with learning
- communicate with the school if support is needed
Assessment and Monitoring
Assessment continues during remote learning to ensure progress:
- Teachers use ongoing assessment to identify gaps
- Work submitted online is reviewed regularly
- Adaptations are made to teaching based on pupil needs
For pupils self-isolating, learning will closely match in-school teaching, and understanding will be checked on return.
Online Platforms and Resources
Pupils have access to a range of online platforms to support learning, including:
- Google Classroom
- Times Table Rock Stars
- Numbots
- Bug Club
- Charanga
- Language Angels
Safeguarding
Safeguarding remains a priority. All online interactions follow federation safeguarding policies, and concerns are reported in line with established procedures.
